The Legend of Maula Jatt India Release: Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan’s film to ONLY release in Punjab; Here’s why

Why ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ India Release will be Limited to Punjab: Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan’s Film Set for Regional Release

India has been eagerly awaiting the release of the blockbuster Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt. Recently, it was announced that the movie starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan will hit Indian theaters on October 2nd. However, there is some disappointing news as the film will only be released in Punjab and not nationwide.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is the first Pakistani film in over a decade to be screened in India, and it is being distributed by Zee Studios. Producer Nadeem Mandviwalla, who is distributing this Punjabi-language saga, expressed hope that this highly-anticipated project would perform exceptionally well in the Indian market.

One of the reasons cited for the limited release is the film’s unavailability on OTT platforms. Nadeem mentioned, “It might take some time as the film is releasing after two years, and the initial excitement has faded since its original release in 2022. However, positive word of mouth is expected to generate excitement again.”

A remake of the 1979 Pakistani film Maula Jatt, The Legend of Maula Jatt was a massive hit at the box office when it first premiered in 2022. Sources suggest that the film’s restricted release in Punjab will gauge the reception of Pakistani cinema in today’s times.

“In addition to security concerns, the team wants to steer clear of controversies or negativity. Targeting the Punjab market seemed like the ideal strategy for the film’s release at the moment,” the source explained. Director Bilal Lashari hinted at the same by announcing on Instagram, “Releasing in India, Punjab on Wednesday 2nd Oct!”

For those unaware, Zee Studios, which is crossing borders, is a part of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, which also owns the Zindagi channel responsible for broadcasting Pakistani content in India.
