Thalapathy Vijay’s stardom shines as ‘The GOAT’ collects over 50 crore on its first day in India
The GOAT (Greatest of All Time) is having a fantastic start at the Tamil box office today, with early estimates indicating a Rs. 55 crore gross opening day at the Indian box office. This marks the third Thalapathy Vijay and the fifth Kollywood film to achieve a Rs. 50 crore plus first day in India.
In Tamil Nadu, the film has crossed Rs. 30 crore in gross earnings, with final numbers expected to fall between Rs. 32-35 crore. This places The GOAT in the company of other Vijay blockbuster openers like Sarkar, Beast, and Leo in the exclusive Rs. 30 crore-plus opening day club. It might even break the current first-day record held by Beast (Rs. 35 crore), which will be confirmed in the morning as the actuals start rolling in.
The opening day has once again showcased Vijay’s dominance at the Tamil Nadu box office, solidifying his reputation as the Greatest of All Time. No other star has managed to surpass Rs. 25 crore in the new showtime norm starting from 9 AM – a milestone that Vijay crossed last year with LEO and now, once again, with The GOAT. While LEO had the advantage of being part of the “Lokesh Cinematic Universe”, some believed credit was shared. However, with The GOAT, there are no such external factors at play. The film’s success is solely driven by one man’s star power, bringing in these impressive numbers.
Elsewhere, the film has garnered over Rs. 9 crore on the first day in Karnataka and Rs. 6 crore in Kerala. However, the opening in Telugu states falls short compared to Vijay’s recent releases. The film may have been impacted by the music, which did not resonate well in these regions. Despite this, the core markets of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Bengaluru have all delivered successfully.
