The Buckingham Murders: Controversy Surrounding Kareena Kapoor’s Chemistry with Co-Star Ranveer Brar; Actor Shares Challenges of Filming Iconic Slap Scene
Chef-turned-actor Ranveer Brar recently starred in Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders and has been receiving critical acclaim for his performance. Brar spoke to India Today Digital, where he praised his co-star Kareena Kapoor Khan. He shared that the iconic slap scene in the climax took 15 takes to finalize, with Kareena not actually hitting him even once.
Ranveer Brar, who played Daljeet Kohli, mentioned, “Kareena was hesitant to slap me initially, saying, ‘nahi maarungi’ (I will not hit you). Despite several takes, Kareena never touched me. It was challenging for me as I am used to reacting to physical contact.”
The 46-year-old actor made his debut in Modern Love Mumbai alongside Pratik Gandhi and shared that working with someone close to his age was more comfortable. However, working with Kareena was slightly intimidating for him. Brar admitted, “While working with Pratik was easy, the hype around Kareena made me nervous. I even got a fever.”

He added, “On my first day on set, she made me feel at ease. All my anxiety disappeared in that moment.” Brar also shared that artists from film families often have a special respect for the script and story.
He felt that Kareena was dedicated to the film and the storyline, not just her character. Brar mentioned his immense respect for the actress after working with her. Kapoor also served as a producer on The Buckingham Murders, placing priority on the story despite focusing on her role.
Reflecting on his experience working on The Buckingham Murders, Ranveer described it as a learning experience akin to a filmmaking school. He credited director Hansal Mehta for teaching him valuable lessons. Brar concluded by saying, “It was an incredible experience, and I felt like I was back in school.”
