Sebastian Stan’s Donald Trump Struggles Through Interview in Official Clip for Ali Abbasi’s Biopic: The Apprentice
The Apprentice will explore Donald Trump’s life and rise to power. The first glimpse released by Briarcliff Entertainment features Sebastian Stan as Trump struggling in a phone interview under the guidance of his mentor Roy Cohn, played by Jeremy Strong.
The movie, directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabe Sherman, stars Emmy winners Stan and Strong, along with Martin Donovan and Maria Bakalova. It premiered at Cannes Film Festival this year, facing opposition from Trump supporters.
Originally backed by Dan Snyder, a conservative friend of Trump, he withdrew his support due to controversies. Briarcliff Entertainment then acquired the film for distribution.
Despite backlash and legal threats, Abbasi stood by his work and used the US election as a promotional tool. “We have a promotional event coming up called the U.S. election, it’s going to help us with the movie,” he said.
The movie was quietly added to this year’s Telluride lineup, with a smooth debut despite fears of protests. Abbasi humorously mentioned Trump as a “special guest” and reserved seats for him and his bodyguards.
