Paramore’s Hayley Williams Responds to Criticism of Her iHeartRadio Speech against Donald Trump: “That’s Because I…”
Hayley Williams, the leader of Paramore, responded to accusations of reading a scripted speech while speaking out against Trump during her band’s performance at the iHeart music festival. People Magazine reported that on September 22, Sunday, Hayley addressed a user on her Instagram stories who questioned if she was “reading a script” and insinuated that she was being compensated or coerced for speaking out against the former president.
She explained that she had typed out the speech herself and a crew member held it near the camera in case she needed the support, emphasizing the importance of her message and her preparation. Hayley made it clear that she did not refer to the script during her performance because she had already memorized it. She stated that she was not paid to give the speech and that her band did not receive payment for their performance at the event. She concluded with gratitude and a farewell to the questioning individual.
During her performance, Hayley spoke passionately about “Project 2025,” which she described as Donald Trump’s plan to control and oppress marginalized communities. She called on Americans to unite and oppose the Trump administration’s agenda, urging them to vote in the upcoming elections to prevent a dictatorship.
In addition to her powerful message, Hayley made a fashion statement with her blue ensemble and headband, reminiscent of 70s fashion.
Hayley’s performance was among many standout acts at the festival, which included The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Gwen Stefani, Halsey, Keith Urban, Shaboozey, The Black Crowes, Thomas Rhett, Camila Cabello, Big Sean, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and others.
