Police provide information about suspect’s plan to attack Taylor Swift concert
Authorities have uncovered more information about the planned terrorist attack that led to the cancellation of Taylor Swift‘s concerts in Austria.
Following the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect for allegedly plotting attacks at various large events in Vienna, including Swift’s scheduled shows, more details have emerged. The suspect has confessed to additional information about the plan, and authorities have identified other potential suspects.
During a press conference on Aug. 8, officials revealed that the primary suspect admitted to planning a suicide attack using knives and explosive devices to harm a “large number” of people, including himself. The suspect, an Austrian citizen with North Macedonian roots, had accessed bomb-building manuals, according to Head of Austria’s Directorate of State Security and Intelligence, Omar Haijawi-Pirchner.
Upon searching the suspect’s residence, authorities found materials such as hydrogen peroxide, homemade explosives, detonators, and detonator cables. The suspect had already assembled explosives, raising concerns about the potential severity of the planned attack.
Authorities have expressed relief that they were able to prevent the attack from taking place.
