Fahad Ahmad, husband of Swara Bhasker, reveals that the only thing we have in common is our ‘s*xual orientation’; shares journey of overcoming ‘caste, religion’ barriers
Actress Swara Bhasker tied the knot with Fahad Ahmad, a political activist and Samajwadi Party leader, in 2023. The couple recently opened up about how they dealt with their differences, such as class and caste backgrounds. Fahad Ahmad mentioned, “The only thing we had in common was our sexual orientation, both of us are straight. We have overcome barriers of caste, religion, urban-rural divide, and class.”
During a recent episode of the podcast Couple of Things, hosted by actor Amrita Rao and her husband Anmol, Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad talked about their first meeting in December 2019. Fahad spoke about their contrasting backgrounds, highlighting the differences.
He pointed out that Swara came from an academically strong family—her mother being a JNU professor and her father a respected naval officer—while his family had no one with a high school education. Fahad was the first in his family to pursue higher education, eventually earning a PhD from the Tata Institute.
Fahad also emphasized the significant disparities in their backgrounds, mentioning his upbringing in a small area near Bareilly, not even classified as a district. He mentioned their religious differences, with him being a Pasmanda Muslim from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and Swara being a Brahmin.
Despite these differences, they found common ground in their heterosexual orientation. Fahad shared that they have successfully navigated various obstacles related to caste, religion, geography, and class. He acknowledged the challenges but also highlighted the happiness and fun in overcoming these challenges together.
Reflecting on their first encounter, Swara appreciated Fahad’s straightforwardness, contrasting it with the cautious nature often seen in the entertainment industry. She admired his honesty and candidness, mentioning, “He is very candid, honest. He speaks his mind regardless of the audience. People in our industry usually care about their image and behavior, but he was different, and I noticed that about him right away.”
Swara and Fahad met during a protest in 2020 and got married on February 16 the following year under the Special Marriage Act. They welcomed their daughter, Raabiyaa, on September 23 and recently celebrated her first birthday, sharing joyful moments on Instagram. The couple posted pictures from the celebration, including Raabiyaa blowing out the candles on her cake, along with Swara’s father, C. Uday Bhasker.
The highlights included Swara riding a toy car with Raabiyaa and Fahad lifting their daughter happily. They shared a heartfelt message expressing their love and gratitude for Raabiyaa.
On the professional front, Swara Bhasker was last seen in the movie Jahaan Chaar Yaar, which premiered in 2022.
