Arrest Made in Connection to Death 10 Months Later

Police have apprehended a man believed to be responsible for the tragic death and sexual assault of Maryland woman Rachel Morin last year.

On June 15, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with federal law enforcement, announced the arrest of Victor Martinez-Hernandez in Tulsa, Oklahoma on suspicion of murder and rape in connection with the 2023 killing of the 37-year-old mother of five.

“We have determined that the suspect, who is now pictured on the screens, is a 23-year-old Salvadoran citizen who illegally crossed the border into the United States in February 2023,” stated Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler during a press conference. He later added, “The charges he faces include first-degree murder and first-degree rape.”

Martinez-Hernandez was taken into custody at a Tulsa County jail shortly after midnight on June 15 and will be extradited to Maryland, according to Gahler. Legal documents acquired by E! News indicate that the suspect is subject to an ICE hold pending potential transfer to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is currently being held without bond on a fugitive from justice complaint, with no legal representation listed.
