Suni Lee Reveals Struggle with Mental Health Before Olympic Team Finals
Following a challenging battle with health issues, Lee made a triumphant return to the mat at the Olympics. In 2023, she was diagnosed with two kidney diseases, leading to a 40-pound weight gain from water retention. She took a six-month break from training but returned to the gym in January to compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
Lee revealed, “Nobody knows this, but the week before the Olympic trials, I had to receive an infusion due to a relapse.”
After her journey at the 2024 Olympics, Lee finds herself in a better place in life. She shared, “Not just physically, but mentally as well, I am able to accept everything that has happened.” The six-time Olympic medalist expressed her happiness, saying, “Not many people have the opportunity to compete at this level twice with the best of the best. I felt absolutely amazing. I have learned to truly appreciate every moment, which is why I am so proud of all my medals.”
