Casting director-actor Abhishek Banerjee, who gained popularity for his role as Hathoda Tyagi in Anushka Sharma’s produced series, Paatal Lok in 2020, starred in two major commercial films this year, Stree 2 and Vedaa. Both movies had simultaneous releases at the box office. Abhishek’s portrayal of Vicky’s friend, Jana, has been a fan-favorite character in the Stree franchise. In a recent statement, he emphasized the importance of audience love over positive critic reviews, stating that critical acclaim alone does not feel fulfilling. According to the Stree 2 actor, producers tend to offer work based on audience enjoyment of his performances.
In a new interview with DNA, Abhishek Banerjee was asked to choose between audience appreciation and critical acclaim following the success of Stree 2 in theaters. He shared his eagerness for audience love as he continues working in films.
Abhishek explained that opinions on critical acclaim can vary based on performance and reviews of his acting skills are subjective. Despite receiving positive feedback, he acknowledged that some audience members may not have been impressed by his work in the past. Nevertheless, he strives to earn their acceptance as an actor.
The Vedaa actor elaborated on his perspective, stating that an actor’s career thrives when they are popular among the masses. He noted that while critics may praise his work, there are instances where the audience may not take notice. Abhishek expressed a desire to connect with the audience more effectively at times.
“Critical acclaim alone does not satisfy. Producers will only offer work when the audience appreciates you,” the actor emphasized.
Highlighting the importance of audience love, Abhishek noted that when viewers admire an actor’s skills, it brings them a sense of joy. It provides a unique sense of fulfillment for artists like him.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 featured Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, reprising their characters from the original film, Stree. Alongside Abhishek Banerjee, the sequel also starred Pankaj Tripathi and Aparshakti Khurana in supporting roles.
