In the late ’90s, Paul met his wife Julie Yaeger, a screenwriter and producer. Their first meeting took place in a publicist’s office in New York shortly after Paul’s breakout role in Clueless. “We started talking and there was a maturity with her—she had experienced some tragedy in her life, I had too,” Paul recalled to Marie Claire UK in 2018. “The impression I got was, ‘Wow, this is a woman. This isn’t a girl.'”
After their initial meeting, Paul took Julie to lunch, and a few years later, they got married in 2003. Their son Jack was born in 2006, followed by younger sister Darby in 2010. Despite Paul’s success as a comedian and actor, he values the life he has built with his family above all else. “When I think about myself, I think of myself as a husband and a father,” he shared with People in 2021. “I just hang out with my family when I’m not working. That’s what I kind of like the most.”
