Arshad Warsi addresses controversy surrounding his ‘joker’ comment about Prabhas, focusing on the character, not the person
Arshad Warsi has addressed the criticism he faced for his controversial “joker” remark about Prabhas. Previously, he had described the Kalki 2898 AD actor as a joker in the film. However, he recently clarified his stance at an event, praising Prabhas as a ‘brilliant’ star.
Arshad Warsi stated, “Everyone has their own perspective, and people tend to misinterpret things. I was talking about the character, not the actor. Prabhas is a talented actor who has consistently proven himself, and we are all aware of that. It is disheartening for the audience when a good actor is given a bad character.”
The controversy began when Arshad expressed his dislike for Kalki 2898 AD in an interview with Samdish Bhatia. He expressed disappointment in Prabhas’ character in the movie.
Arshad Warsi remarked, “I am really saddened by Prabhas, why was he portrayed as a joker. Why? I wanted to see a Mad Max. I wanted to see Mel Gibson in that role. What have you done to him? Why do they do such things, I never understand.”
Following the backlash, Arshad received criticism from netizens and fellow industry members. Director Nag Ashwin also responded to the controversy on social media.
He wrote, “Let’s move forward and focus on the bigger picture of a united Indian film industry. Arshad sir could have chosen his words more carefully, but it’s okay. Sending toys for his kids as a gesture. I will work hard so that everyone agrees that Prabhas was exceptional in Kalki 2898 AD.”
