Leo Russo, played by Ray Romano, leads a simple life in Queens, New York with his wife Angela, portrayed by Laurie Metcalf, their talented but shy son “Sticks,” played by Jacob Ward, and a group of close-knit Italian-American relatives and friends. Leo finds happiness in supporting Sticks at his high-school basketball games, where he excels as a star athlete. When Sticks is offered a life-changing opportunity to play basketball in college, Leo sees a chance for his son to have a future beyond the family construction business.
