Simone Biles Struggles with Calf Pain During Gymnastics Qualifiers
Simone Biles refused to let a leg injury hold her back during her triumphant return to the Olympics.
During the second day of the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 28, the most decorated gymnast in the world managed to advance past the qualifications round while pushing through the pain.
Despite a rough landing during her floor routine warm-up, where she scored 14.733 with her balance beam routine, the 27-year-old athlete had to pause to have her left ankle taped.
Her coach, Cecile Landi, mentioned to reporters after the event that Biles experienced some discomfort in her calf, as reported by NBC News. Landi also noted that the injury had been bothering Biles during training earlier in the month, but her condition had improved until now. The coach confirmed that the gymnast plans to continue participating in the 2024 Olympics as scheduled.
Throughout the qualifying competitions, Biles achieved impressive scores—15.300 on vault, 14.433 on uneven bars, and 14.600 for her floor routine, contributing to Team USA’s leading total score of 172.296.
