Sophie Kinsella, Author of Shopaholic Series, Reveals Battle with Brain Cancer
Sophie Kinsella is sharing details about her personal health struggle.
The author of the Shopaholic series, whose real name is Madeleine Sophie Wickham, revealed that she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of aggressive brain cancer, less than two years ago.
“To my dear readers & followers,” Sophie wrote in a message posted on her social media accounts on April 17. “I’ve been wanting to update you on my health for a while now, and I finally feel ready to do so.”
She shared that she received the diagnosis towards the end of 2022 and explained, “I purposely kept this information private until my children had the chance to hear and understand the news in private and adjust to our ‘new normal’.”
The 53-year-old, who has five children with her husband Henry Wickham, also described her treatment journey, mentioning a successful surgery followed by ongoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
“Currently, everything is stable and I’m feeling quite well overall,” Sophie added, with a touch of humor, “although I do get tired and my memory is even worse than before!”
