‘Shogun’ Dominates at the 2024 Television Critics Awards
FX’s Shōgun was the big winner at the 40th Television Critics Association Awards on Friday.
The drama series set in feudal Japan won four honors, including the TCA‘s program of the year award. It also won awards for best drama and best new program, while Anna Sawai won for individual achievement in drama for her role as Toda Mariko.
Shōgun is also expected to be a big factor at the Emmy Awards, nominations for which will be announced on Wednesday.
Max’s Hacks was the only other multiple award winner Friday, taking home honors for both achievement in comedy (a series award) and individual achievement in comedy for Jean Smart. It’s the second win in the category for Smart, who also was honored after the show’s first season in 2021.
Other winners included Netflix’s Baby Reindeer for miniseries, movies and specials; Doctor Who for family programming; Bluey for children’s programming; The Traitors for reality programming; and ID’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV for news and information.
Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs, NBC’s upcoming St. Denis Medical) hosted the awards, which had their first in-person ceremony since 2019. The TCA posthumously honored Andre Braugher with its career achievement award and gave the Heritage Award, for a program that has had a lasting influence on television, to Twin Peaks.
