She Taught Love’s trailer is now available. The movie stars Arsema Thomas from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and Darrell Britt-Gibson from The Wire. The story revolves around the romance between Frank Cooper, played by Britt-Gibson, an actor, and Mali Waters, played by Thomas, a sports agent.
According to the official synopsis, they are polar opposites whose lives change when they meet. Despite their initial instincts, they are drawn to each other. However, life has its own rules, and Mali is forced to confront a harsh reality.
The journey is not smooth for the two leads. Mali grapples with questions about mortality and her own death. Nevertheless, they work together to pave their path, even if it might be short-lived.
Britt-Gibson wrote the film, and Nate Edwards directed it. In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Gibson explained the inspiration behind the plot, emphasizing the one-dimensional portrayal of women in popular media as weaker than men.
“I wanted to tell a story where a powerful Black woman takes the lead, challenging the stereotypes I grew up seeing in movies where women were portrayed as weak and needing to be saved by men,” said Gibson, expressing gratitude to the women who inspired him.
Edwards shared insights into the filmmaking process, highlighting the collaborative effort to meet expectations but finding beauty in letting the story reveal itself. Thomas sees the film as a love letter to the audience.
She Taught Love will be released on Hulu on September 27.
