Scarlett Johansson Criticizes ChatGPT for Mimicking Her Voice Too Closely
Scarlett Johansson criticized OpenAI’s “Eerily Similar” Voice After Rejecting Offer
Scarlett Johansson made it clear that she does not want to be associated with the artificial intelligence software created by OpenAI.
The actress, known for her role as Black Widow , called out OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for using a voice in their system that she believes sounds too much like her own voice without her permission. In a statement released by her representative to E! News on May 20, Johansson revealed that she had declined an offer from Altman in September to be the voice of their ChatGPT 4.0 system, citing personal reasons for her decision.
Despite her refusal, Johansson was shocked to learn that the company went ahead and used a voice that she felt closely resembled her own in their new system, “Sky.” She noted that even her friends, family, and the public commented on the similarities.
In her statement, Johansson expressed her disbelief and anger towards Altman for seemingly purposefully using a voice that sounded like hers, referencing Altman’s tweet on May 13 where he only wrote “her,” a nod to the film where Johansson voiced a chat system named Samantha. The actress found it unsettling that Altman would go against her wishes and include a voice similar to hers in their AI system.
