Armorer Convicted for 2021 Shooting and Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison
Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. The 26-year-old was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, as reported by NBC News.
The judge stated, “I find that what you did constitutes a serious violent offense. You were the armorer, the one that stood between a safe weapon and a weapon that could kill someone.”
Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter but not guilty of tampering with evidence. Her attorney Jason Bowles mentioned plans to appeal the decision.
In October 2021, cinematographer Hutchins was fatally wounded on the set of Rust when a live round was discharged from a prop gun in actor Alec Baldwin‘s hand. Director Joel Souza was also injured but recovered.
