During an interview with Friday Talkies, Rahul Rawail recounted how Rishi Kapoor informed him about his father Raj Kapoor starting the shoot of the Russian circus in Azad Maidan, Bombay. Rishi’s description of the Russian circus girls piqued Rahul’s interest, prompting him to visit the set at just 15 years old.
Rahul remembered his visit to the set with Rishi Kapoor where he saw Raj Kapoor’s commanding presence over the massive production. He admired Raj Kapoor’s attention to detail and confidence on set.

Rahul Rawail revealed that after visiting the Mera Naam Joker set daily, he expressed his desire to become an assistant director with Raj Kapoor to his parents. His father, filmmaker Harnam Singh Rawail, facilitated a meeting with Raj Kapoor, who welcomed Rahul on board.
Rawail cherished his 60-year-long friendship with Rishi Kapoor, recalling their daily conversations and unwavering bond since kindergarten. He paid tribute to their friendship and shared anecdotes from their time together.
Rahul Rawail’s directorial career started as an assistant director on Mera Naam Joker and later directing films like Gunahgaar, Love Story, Betaab, Anjaam, Dacait, Anjaam, and Arjun Pandit.
