Ex Gordon of RHOP Star Mia Thornton Reveals Bipolar Diagnosis
Mia Thornton‘s estranged husband Gordon Thornton is receiving treatment after being diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder.
The Real Housewives of Potomac star, who separated from Mia last year after 11 years of marriage, bravely opened up about his struggle with the disorder during part three of the Bravo series’ season eight reunion. Bipolar 1 disorder causes manic and depressive episodes that often require medical intervention.
“Bipolar, in and of itself, causes your mind to work in opposites,” the 71-year-old disclosed on the April 14 episode. “Your mind tricks you into thinking, ‘You are normal, everyone else is slow.'”
Gordon shared that his behavior during episodes of bipolar 1 disorder became unbalanced and only people close to him, like Mia, noticed his mood swings while he remained unaware of his symptoms.
“Things got so difficult for me that I had to admit myself to the hospital for treatment,” he added.
Gordon, who has two children, son Jeremiah (8) and daughter Juliana (6) with Mia, received his official diagnosis over two years ago, although he now realizes he has been struggling with bipolar symptoms since his 20s.
