Reese Witherspoon Responds to Nicole Kidman Forgetting Her Actual Name
Reese Witherspoon has been keeping a little secret.
After Nicole Kidman questioned why Reese refers to their co-star in Big Little Lies, Laura Dern, by her last name, the actress from Legally Blonde had to give her friend a gentle reminder of her own name.
“I don’t like how you always call her Dern,” Nicole admitted to Reese in a video for Vanity Fair published on June 5. “It just sounds strange. I usually say ‘Laura,’ but you’re always like ‘No, Dern, Dern,’ and I’m like, ‘Why?'”
Reese quickly jumped in to explain the reason behind the nickname, saying, “‘Cause my name is Laura, and her name is Laura, and it’s confusing to me.”
The star of The Morning Show also reminded Nicole that her actual name is Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon, which she shortened to her mother’s maiden name, Betty, before starting her acting career.
Although Nicole, aged 56, admitted that she had forgotten they both shared the same first name, she still found the situation a bit puzzling, especially since Laura does not even call Reese by her first name.
