Rachel Sennot Discusses Her Experience Working on the SNL Movie and Reflects on Feeling ‘Chill’ for the First Time
Rachel Sennot has been cast to play the role of Rosie Shuster in the upcoming SNL movie. She shared her experience on set and how she handled the script and schedules. In an interview with People Magazine, Sennot mentioned that playing the character of Rosie was one of the most relaxed roles she has ever taken on in her career.
Rosie Shuster wrote the first episode of SNL in 1975 when she was the wife of the showrunner, Lorne Michaels. Sennot expressed her admiration for the former SNL writer, saying, “I had the chance to speak with Rosie, and she’s incredible.” She added, “She is cool, smart, and funny, and I am looking forward to meeting her in person at the premiere.”
Sennot also discussed her conversation with the scriptwriter over the phone and the pressure she felt. However, upon meeting Shuster in person, the actress found her to be cool, smart, and funny. Sennot said, “Although there was still some pressure when we spoke on the phone, I was mostly excited. I wanted everyone to know about her.”
In the film, Sennot will play a significant role as she portrays someone who usually works behind the scenes but deserves recognition for popularizing comedy sketches and contributing to the show’s success.
Reflecting on her film experiences, Sennot mentioned, “This is the first time in a movie where I am relaxed. I am usually filled with panic. In real life, I am always anxious.” She added, “It feels liberating to embody someone who is so confident and in control. I hope she appreciates the portrayal and feels understood. I wanted to share her story because she played a crucial role in shaping SNL.”
The SNL movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 11.
