Ravi Shankar, producer of Pushpa 2, finally responds to Pawan Kalyan’s criticism of portraying heroes as smugglers: ‘He had something to say…’
Producer Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers has responded to the recent controversy surrounding actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan, who raised concerns about lead actors portraying smugglers in films. He clarified Pawan’s remarks and stated that they were taken out of context.
Ravi Shankar explained, “Pawan Kalyan Garu was speaking in a different context. It was assumed by people that he was referring to this movie. His stature is on a different level, and he wouldn’t say anything that negatively impacts the film industry. He said something in passing, but it is not related to Pushpa 2.”
The producer’s response came after Pawan Kalyan’s comments earlier this month. During a recent press interaction about his collaboration with the Forest Minister of Karnataka, he talked about the changes in how heroes are portrayed in movies and how they are now depicted as smugglers destroying forests instead of protecting them.
According to the Hindustan Times, Pawan Kalyan stated, “Around 40 years ago, a hero was someone who protected the forest. And now, the hero is someone who destroys the forest and is a smuggler.” The actor-politician expressed his confusion about current cinema, in which he is also involved, questioning if the right message is being sent.
His comments caused a stir on social media, with some thinking it was a jab at Allu Arjun and Sukumar’s Pushpa franchise.
Returning to one of this year’s most anticipated films, Pushpa 2: The Rule is set for release on December 6. At the same event, producer Ravi Shankar addressed queries about the Allu Arjun starrer.
For those unaware, the Sukumar-directed film faced speculation of discord between Allu Arjun and the director, Sukumar, along with rumors of a possible postponement of the release due to these issues.
However, Ravi Shankar dismissed these rumors and assured fans that the film has turned out exceptionally well, with the remaining work set to be completed by September.
He mentioned, “Pushpa 2 has turned out exceptionally well…by September, we will wrap up the remaining work on the film. By November, we will send it to theaters and confirm the release on December 6.” (loose translation) The upcoming sequel will also feature Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil reprising their respective roles.
