Prince Harry exposes the key factor in the rift with the royal family
According to the outlet, Harry stated that the settlement, authorized by their grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, will prevent future litigation from the royals. The settlement came to light in court as News Group Newspapers argued that Harry’s suit was filed too late, but Harry referenced his brother’s previous agreement for the timing of his own lawsuit. Ultimately, a judge ruled in Harry’s favor, and the lawsuit is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Harry has had two victories in a separate lawsuit against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).
During a hearing on Feb. 9, Harry’s attorney David Sherborne announced that a settlement had been reached between MGN and Harry. The agreement includes MGN covering legal costs and damages, along with an interim payment of 400,000 pounds ($505,000) for invading his privacy through phone hacking and other illegal means, as reported by NBC News.
MGN, the publisher of tabloids like The Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror, expressed in a statement to NBC News that they are “pleased to have reached this agreement, which provides clarity for the business to move forward from past events for which they have apologized.”
