Prince Harry Fails in Legal Battle for U.K. Security Protection
Following a recent decision, the Home Office has shared their response.
“We are pleased that the court has ruled in favor of the government’s stance in this matter,” they stated in a segment of a message obtained by Reuters, “and we are currently evaluating our next steps.”
In the meantime, Harry’s legal team, who have mentioned concerns about the duke’s safety in the U.K. under the current security arrangements and had previously been unsuccessful in their attempt to shift the responsibility of covering protection costs to him, expressed their intention to appeal the ruling.
“While these terms are not explicitly used by RAVEC, the ‘RAVEC cohort’ consists of three categories – as disclosed during the legal proceedings: the Role Based Category, the Occasional Category, and the Other VIP Category,” a legal representative for the duke declared in a statement obtained by NBC News. “The Duke is not seeking special treatment, but a fair and lawful application of RAVEC’s own regulations to ensure that he is treated equally as per RAVEC’s documented policy.”
The spokesperson further explained, “In February 2020, RAVEC did not adhere to its official policy with regards to The Duke of Sussex and omitted him from a specific risk assessment. The Duke argues that the ‘bespoke process’ applied to him does not substitute for such risk assessment. The Duke of Sussex is hopeful for a favorable outcome from the Court of Appeal and will refrain from further comments until the case concludes.”
