“Drew Barrymore to Adopt Social Distancing Measures on Her Talk Show After Years of Close Contact”
Drew Barrymore, 49, has been criticized by netizens for her interviewing style on her show. She recently spoke about why she conducts interviews the way she does and what changes she will be making in the future to maintain distance from her guests.
According to Page Six, The Drew Barrymore Show host shared in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight that she will be “practicing physical distance” with her guests going forward, even though it’s not something she excels at.
She explained, “First of all, we’re always going to be big on joy and laughter and feeling good.” Barrymore mentioned that she always intended for the show to focus on happiness and humor, but she never expected to launch it during a pandemic, which she described as “weird and wacky.”
She also talked about how the pandemic affected her personally, being alone in a studio when she enjoys being around people.
Many people criticized her behavior with guests, especially after a moment with Oprah Winfrey on the show where Barrymore caressed Winfrey’s arm. However, Winfrey defended the gesture, stating that she felt comforted by it.
Barrymore acknowledged that her interviewing style may not be everyone’s favorite but emphasized the growth and success of her show ahead of its season 5 premiere in September.
She expressed, “I always think that when good things happen, you talk about that it wasn’t just easy. That it wasn’t just handed. We had a lot of years of uncertainty. So, this feels all the more delicious because of that.”
