Details Revealed for Practical Magic Sequel, Including Returning Stars and Original Writer
Practical Magic 2 has a promising future ahead. The sequel to the 1998 fantasy-comedy, with original stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman returning as the Owen sisters, is in the works after almost three decades.
The latest update on the Practical Magic sequel indicates a positive outlook as a talented writer from the original team has been added to the project.
An original writer will return to pen Practical Magic 2
Oscar-winning writer Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the screenplay for the original Practical Magic, has confirmed that he will be writing the sequel for Warner Bros. He made the official announcement at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Goldsman will be tasked with ensuring the sequel lives up to the source material, Alice Hoffman’s book, the Practical Magic book, and the original film directed by Griffin Dunne.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman will reprise their roles as Sally and Gillian, continuing the journey of the Owen witches. Kidman hinted that there is more to the new film’s storyline.
The producer teased that Practical Magic 2 will likely follow the narrative of the fourth book in Hoffman’s series, The Book of Magic, published in 2021.
The sequel is expected to be released in 2025 and is currently in the early stages of development. Goldsman’s involvement in the project is reassuring given his experience with the franchise and successful writing career.
