Metcalfe shared with E! News that the iconic scene where Kate asks John to don thong underwear and mistakenly sends him to the wrong hotel room during an away-game trip was not originally scripted. And perhaps for good reason.
“Betty Thomas, the director, actually brought up the thong idea to me in a very subtle way,” he recounted with a chuckle. “She said, ‘Jesse, I want you to wear a thong in the movie.’ And my initial reaction was, ‘What?! No way, that’s not happening.'”
However, after some convincing over a three-day period, Metcalfe conceded. “It’s a comedy, you have to push the boundaries to get the laughs. So I went for it. No regrets,” he shared.
He not only succeeded in getting laughs but also felt confident in his portrayal. “I believe I pulled it off,” Metcalfe added.
And just in case there were any doubts, Snow confirmed to Us Weekly, saying, “That was really him. Jesse and I were hitting the gym every morning and evening before filming that scene. It was just the two of us, amazed at the situation. He put in a lot of effort!”
