“Somebody in control can deny you work”, Palash Sen discusses industry politics
Palash Sen, a popular singer known for his band Euphoria, has sung many soulful songs in the 2000s era that are still loved by music enthusiasts. Some of Sen’s notable works include Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Gali, Maaeri, Dhoom Pichak Dhoom, Ab Na Ja, Raja Rani, and others.
In a recent interview, Sen discussed the ongoing politics in the music industry and the challenges faced by young artists today.

Sen acknowledged the presence of politics in the music industry, especially with independent music thriving. He mentioned that young artists are wary of becoming victims of the system.
When asked if young artists have voiced their concerns about the situation, Sen shared that they are afraid to speak out against authorities due to potential career repercussions.
“Of course, but they cannot speak. People are scared. Somebody in control can turn around and say tu zyada bol raha hai tujhe kaam nahi dunga (…you are talking so much, you won’t get work anymore),” Sen said.
Sen draws a comparison of the Indian music industry with the United States
Sen praised the United States as a better place for artists, highlighting the separation of film and music industries. He emphasized the importance of film industry buying music from artists rather than treating them as “slaves” for composing songs.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya, in an interview with Pinkvilla, shared his experiences of facing politics in the music industry. Despite being close to certain music directors, he missed out on singing for Shah Rukh Khan due to internal politics.
Similarly, when Bhattacharya won an award for a song in Yes Boss, music directors openly expressed that he wouldn’t receive any more offers from them.
