Jonathan Bailey Transforms Into Fiyero in New Teaser for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s Wicked; Watch ‘Oz’s Most Eligible Bachelor’
A new teaser trailer for Wicked has been released, offering fans a first look at Jonathan Bailey in the role of Fiyero. Bailey’s portrayal of Oz’s most eligible bachelor has fans of the musical and film adaptation eagerly awaiting this fresh take on the beloved character.
The teaser trailer highlights Fiyero’s arrival at Shiz University, generating excitement among the students. The trailer begins with a newspaper headline announcing his presence, followed by scenes of Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, getting ready to impress him.
The teaser also showcases Fiyero’s impact on campus life, showing his interactions with other students and a notable moment where he talks about wanting to “corrupt his fellow students.”
Additionally, the teaser includes a glimpse of a musical number and a dramatic scene of Fiyero climbing the stacks of the Shiz library. The attention to detail in his attire, along with the director Jon M. Chu’s camera work, showcases the character’s stylish appearance. The teaser also features a scene at the Oz Dust ballroom, now transformed into an underground club in tribute to Gregory Maguire’s novel.
A pivotal moment in the teaser shows a confrontation between Fiyero and Elphaba, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo. Elphaba accuses Fiyero of pretending to be superficial and self-absorbed, to which Fiyero responds candidly, “Excuse me, there’s no pretense here, I happen to be genuinely self-absorbed and deeply shallow.”
Wicked, a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, follows Elphaba and her relationship with Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West. The musical, penned by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, has been adapted for film, involving Marc Platt, the original Broadway producer.
Director Jon M. Chu has revealed that the story will be split into two films to honor the source material’s integrity, allowing for a deeper exploration of the musical’s themes and characters.
The first installment of Wicked is scheduled for release on November 22, with Bailey’s portrayal of Fiyero expected to play a significant role in the film’s narrative.
