Jonathan Daviss from Outer Banks Discusses the Emotional Experience of Filming a One-On-One Scene with Madelyn Cline After Half a Decade on the Show

Jonathan Daviss has shared his experience working with Madelyn Cline on the set of Outer Banks after Season 4 premiered on Netflix. Playing Pope, Daviss will be back on screen with the rest of the cast, including Chase Stokes, Rudy Pankow, and Madison Bailey.

In an interview with People magazine, Daviss talked about his growing friendship with Cline after three seasons of working together. He mentioned that they had never shot solo scenes before, so he was excited to finally have a chance to do so in the latest season.

Daviss explained that while he and Cline are close off-camera, it was a delight to work together on-screen as well.

“It was fun,” Daviss said. “Madelyn and I are so close; we hang out all the time, and we were literally talking about how we haven’t done any duo scenes—just me and her—ever.” He added, “So, I think we found a cool way to get them into that situation.”

In the last episode of Season 4, Part 1, Pope and Sarah Cameron, played by Cline, find themselves trapped under a church while searching for a clue to Blackbeard’s treasure. This scene marked the first time the two actors shared a scene with just the two of them.

Further in his conversation with the entertainment outlet, Daviss mentioned, “It was so fun being with Maddie for that scene. Being able to show that we have a lot of chemistry just as friends, and playing off of each other was really easy and really fun because we’ve been working together for a long time.”

In the final episode, Daviss and Cline had to crawl through sewage pipes with dirt and rats. Daviss recalled that they realized this was the first time they had filmed solo scenes together.

The first part of Season 4 was released last week, with the remaining episodes coming on November 7.
