After rising to fame as Archie Andrews in the popular TV show Riverdale, KJ Apa is making his way to the big screen in a completely new look! The actor has joined forces with Eric Dane for an upcoming R-rated action thriller called One Fast Move, where Apa plays a passionate bike racing enthusiast who turns to his father for help to excel in the sport. The creator of the film sheds light on the inspiration behind its themes.
KJ Apa debuts a new appearance in the One Fast Move trailer
The I Still Believe star portrays Wes, “a young man facing difficulties who reaches out to his estranged father (Eric Dane) for assistance in pursuing his dream of becoming a professional motorcycle racer,” according to the official synopsis.
In the trailer, Wes is released from prison and decides to reintegrate into regular life. He reconnects with his estranged father, Dean. After a few awkward conversations, the father and son work through their differences as Dean decides to mentor Wes, a newcomer, in the art of racing.
“Hey, look at that! I taught him that outside pass!” Dean exclaims at one point in the trailer. “The faster I go, the calmer I feel,” Wes remarks. “So you just need to keep going faster,” his dad and mentor responds.
In addition to his mentorship with Dean, Apa’s character also finds a romantic interest in Maia Reficco, a motorcycle shop owner who becomes a guiding figure for Wes as he tries to reconnect with his father.
Director of One Fast Move shares the film’s inspiration
Kelly Blatz, the director of the action drama, disclosed to Entertainment Weekly that her inspiration for One Fast Move stemmed from her admiration for sports dramas like The Fighter, Ford v. Ferrari, and Rocky.
Being a motorcycle enthusiast herself, Blatz noticed the lack of focus on the thrilling sport of motorcycle racing in movies. Hence, making this film was a tribute to the biker racers and her passion for the sport.
Blatz and her team dedicated themselves to crafting a movie that accurately captured the “excitement and danger of motorcycle racing, while also delivering a compelling, character-driven drama.” The action-drama, written and directed by Blatz, also features Edward James Olmos and Maia Reficco.
One Fast Move will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting August 8, 2024.
