Suni Lee, Olympic Gymnast, Shares Reasons for Balance Beam Fall
“The beam final is always the most stressful,” she expressed to reporters via NBC News. “But usually, we have music or background noise, whatever that may be.”
The 27-year-old mentioned that gymnasts “perform better in environments with noise because it feels more like practice.”
“It felt really strange and awkward,” she elaborated, “and we’ve requested multiple times for music or background noise. So I’m not sure what happened there, but yeah, none of us enjoyed it. It was indeed an unusual beam final.”
Despite some struggling with the balance beam, Team Italy’s Alice D’Amato claimed the gold, while Zhou Yaqin of China secured silver and Italian gymnast Manila Esposito took home the bronze.
