Olympians Try Out Cardboard Beds in Surprising Experiment
Discussing the absence of air conditioning at the Summer Games can be a conversation starter for athletes.
The organizers of the Olympics have chosen not to install a.c. in the rooms for the Olympians, opting for alternative cooling methods instead.
“We planned these buildings to be comfortable living spaces in the summer, both for 2024 and beyond,” Yann Krysinski, SVP of SOLIDEO (the organization responsible for key Olympic infrastructure), informed Reuters in February. “We have designed the facades to minimize sun exposure during the summer, and the insulation is highly effective.”
He elaborated, “We are also using naturally cool underground water to cool the air in these apartments. Therefore, air conditioning will not be necessary during the summer here.”
However, not all athletes were comfortable with this decision, and the CEO of the United States Olympic Committee, Sarah Hirshland, previously confirmed that Team USA will have air conditioning in their rooms. According to The Washington Post, teams from Britain, Canada, and Italy are also bringing air conditioning units.
