Olympian Rose Harvey Completes Paris Race Despite Broken Leg
Rose Harvey can persevere through adversity.
The British marathon runner crossed the finish line in 78th place at the 2024 Olympic marathon, clocking in at just over two hours and 50 minutes. She revealed that she completed the race despite having sustained a broken bone early on.
“It was incredibly challenging,” Rose, who had previously completed a marathon in an impressive two hours and 22 minutes, confessed in an interview with the BBC on Aug. 13. “The hills were brutal, the descents were excruciating, and the pain just intensified. By the halfway point, I knew I was in for a world of hurt.”
The 31-year-old shared that she had been battling hip pain leading up to the Paris Games, and the stress of the race exacerbated the injury, resulting in a stress fracture in her femur.
Despite the setback, Rose, once a financial lawyer and now a full-time marathoner, was resolute in finishing the race, knowing that there was no backup to take her place on the course.
