Olympian Imane Khelif embroiled in gender controversy – Hollywood Life
Boxer Imane Khelif sparked controversy at the 2024 Paris Olympics for failing her gender eligibility tests in 2023 and making her opponent Angela Carini call off their match in the first round.
The 25-year-old fighter reportedly has XY chromosomes and elevated testosterone levels, not meeting eligibility requirements. However, the International Olympic Committee allowed her to compete based on the competition’s rules.
Before the games, the IOC stated, “All athletes comply with eligibility and entry regulations, as well as medical regulations.”
Mark Adams, IOC spokesman, confirmed that all female competitors met eligibility rules, despite Khelif’s genetic makeup.
During their fight, Carini withdrew from the match due to injury, with Khelif remaining determined to win.
Carini later shared her reasons for stopping the fight, expressing her pain and inability to continue.
Despite the controversy, Khelif remained focused on her goal of winning the gold medal.
