Stanley Tucci Reflects on Career Challenges After Portraying Nigel in The Devil Wears Prada
Stanley Tucci, best known for his role as Nigel in the iconic 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, recently shared his struggles with finding work in Hollywood despite the success of the movie. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor revealed how he couldn’t understand why he wasn’t getting hired and ended up taking on projects he wasn’t passionate about.
During a conversation with an entertainment portal, Tucci discussed his period of unemployment after The Devil Wears Prada was released, attributing it to the ups and downs of his career and the nature of the industry.
He explained, “Sometimes it was personal reasons that prevented me from working. Six years ago, I fell ill, which disrupted my career for a while, but I slowly bounced back.”
Tucci further shared, “I had to start working again. I needed the money. Maybe I returned to work too soon after my treatment, as I didn’t have the energy for it, but I had to do it, and eventually, I regained my strength.”

In 2017, Tucci was diagnosed with oral cancer, which also impacted his career. The actor credited his wife, Felicity Blunt, sister of his co-star Emily Blunt, for saving his life by encouraging him to seek medical help.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tucci remained ambiguous about his involvement in a potential sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, stating, “I can’t disclose that information. I’m not allowed to.”
Aside from Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci starred alongside a talented cast including Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Simon Baker, Adrian Grenier, and Tracie Thomas. The film is now available for streaming on Apple TV+.
