Why Munjya actor Abhay Verma turned down Archies from Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, and Khushi Kapoor for his latest film: the reason revealed
Actor Abhay Verma, known for his role in The Family Man 2, recently appeared in Munjya alongside Sharvari Wagh. The film was a big success, with Abhay playing the lead role opposite Sharvari.
Prior to landing a role in the 2024 supernatural comedy horror film, Abhay was set to star in Zoya Akhtar’s project, The Archies. However, he ultimately chose to go in a different direction.
Abhay Verma Shares Insights on Choosing Safed over The Archies
In a recent interview with Digital Commentary, Abhay Verma disclosed that he had a role offer in The Archies, starring Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda. Despite this opportunity, Abhay decided to work on Safed directed by Sandeep Singh instead of Zoya Akhtar’s film.
When questioned about rejecting The Archies in favor of Safed, the Munjya actor confirmed that both projects were developing simultaneously.
“I was in talks for The Archies, but my preference was Safed. I auditioned for The Archies and met Zoya, but ultimately, I chose Safed,” Abhay explained.
A Brief Overview of The Archies
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, The Archies was a teen musical comedy featuring Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, Aditi Saigal, and Yuvraj Menda in significant roles. It was a live-action adaptation of the fictional rock band, The Archies, known from the animated cartoon series, The Archie Show in the 1960s.
The film was a collaborative effort of Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti under the Tiger Films banner.
Prior to this, Abhay Verma had also turned down a role in Angrezi Medium, a 2020 film by Homi Adajania starring Irrfan Khan and Radhika Madan. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dimple Kapadia were also part of the project.
Abhay Verma’s Recent Projects
Abhay Verma made his Bollywood debut with Safed in 2023, playing the character of a transgender person. The movie also featured Meera Chopra and Barkha Bisht.
In 2024, Abhay appeared in Ae Watan Mere Watan, a historical biographical film. Sara Ali Khan portrayed the role of Usha Mehta, who initiated an underground radio station to promote unity during the Quit India Movement.
Abhay’s latest release, Munjya, hit theaters on June 7, 2024.
