Megan Thee Stallion Wins Best Trending Video at 2024 MTV VMAs, Hosts Earns First Victory of the Night
Megan Thee Stallion is dominating the 2024 MTV VMAs as both the host and a winner. The 29-year-old rapper took home her first Moon Person of the evening during the pre-show on Wednesday, September 11, for Mamushi, her collaboration with Yuki Chiba. The song secured her the Best Trending Video award.
Reflecting on her win with People, Thee Stallion expressed her shock at receiving the award, as she and Yuki had recorded the song in a small apartment/studio in Japan. The artist mentioned that they were just having fun with the tune, never anticipating its success. “I feel pretty iconic,” she remarked, suggesting that she may now be famous.
For her hosting role, the rapper made a glamorous entrance at New York’s UBS Arena. Rocking a strapless black dress with a corseted bodice and a mesh see-through bodycon skirt, Thee Stallion looked stunning on the red carpet, with voluminous fabric wrapped around her legs for a unique touch.
During the show, The WAP rapper paid tribute to Britney Spears in a segment honoring iconic VMA performances, including Britney’s memorable rendition of I’m a Slave 4 U at the 2001 edition of the show. The act, known for Britney’s daring outfit and snake dance, was recreated by Thee Stallion with a snake of her own, although she quickly became scared of the reptile and asked for its removal.
As the snake was taken away, Megan let out a sigh of relief, exclaiming, “Oh my god.”
Thee Stallion is part of a lineup set to deliver spectacular performances alongside Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Chappell Roan, and Halsey.
