Actress Ari Graynor Reveals Why She Felt a Strong Connection to Attorney Leslie Abramson, Whom She Played in “Monsters”
Netflix’s crime anthology series, Monsters, focused on the true story of the Menendez brothers who were convicted of murdering their parents. The case took a new turn with claims of abuse from the convicts towards the victims, adding a different dimension to the story.
Ari Graynor played attorney Leslie Abramson in the series, who handled the complex case but never interacted with her real-life counterpart. Despite the sensational nature of the case, Abramson chose not to speak to the press as it was a painful experience for her.
Graynor mentioned that Abramson had strong opinions about the media and its impact on cases. The attorney only shared her insights through her memoir, The Defense Is Ready: Life in the Trenches of Criminal Law, in 1997, and now lives a retired life away from the public eye.
Although Graynor never met Abramson, she developed a deep connection and admiration for her while filming the series. She expressed her desire to reach out to Abramson and convey her feelings of appreciation for the defense attorney.
Graynor believes that the Menendez brothers deserve a retrial to potentially reclaim their lives and make positive contributions to society. She sees them as remarkable individuals and hopes to one day have the opportunity to embrace them.
