Molly Ringwald Opens Up About Being Exploited as a Young Actress
Molly Ringwald is opening up about the challenges she encountered as a young actress.
Reflecting on her time in Hollywood as a teenager and young woman, the Pretty in Pink star shared insights into her complex relationship with the industry.
“I never really felt like I belonged to a community when I was in Hollywood, simply because I was so young,” Molly revealed on the May 27 episode of the WTF with Marc Maron podcast. “I wasn’t interested in going to clubs. I think I am more social now than I was back then. I was just too young.”
Despite her shyness and introverted nature, the Sixteen Candles actress confessed to finding herself in unsettling situations.
“I was taken advantage of,” Molly disclosed. “It’s impossible to be a young actress in Hollywood without encountering predators.”
“I certainly found myself in questionable circumstances,” she added. “Fortunately, I possess a strong survival instinct and a powerful super-ego that helped me navigate ways to protect myself. Nevertheless, it was a daunting experience.”
