Miss Universe Buenos Aires Makes History as First 60-Year-Old Winner
The exciting change for Miss Universe was announced by the 2023 winner R’Bonney Gabriel during New York Fashion Week.
“What I love about Miss Universe is that they are always at the forefront,” she shared in an interview with WWD published on Sept. 12. “They are continuously seeking ways to be more inclusive and better fulfill the platform they have created for us.”
She expressed, “There is a bold group of women leading the way here, and many people look to us for inspiration—it’s an honor to set an example, and I am proud to be part of this.”
The organization’s update is particularly meaningful to R’Bonney, as she raised the age limit issue during the pageant’s question segment.
“Personally, I would like to see the age limit raised because I am 28 years old,” R’Bonney responded at the time. “Currently, that is the maximum age to compete, and I believe it’s a positive change.”
She emphasized, “One of my favorite quotes is, ‘If not now, then when?’ As a woman, I believe age should not define us. It’s not about tomorrow or yesterday—it’s about seizing the moment. The time is now.”
