Observers of the Stranger Things actress have noticed a shift in her once prominent English accent. While sharing the tale of her engagement to fiancé Jake Bongiovi, Millie appeared to be adopting an American accent.
“Essentially, Jake and I connected over diving. We’re both avid divers. We obtained our diving certifications together,” Millie recounted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Feb. 29. “We were on vacation and he said, ‘Mil, you need to be up at 8 a.m. we’re going on a dive.'”
Fans took to social media to highlight her American pronunciation of words like “vacation,” “together,” and “eight,” while her British roots showed through in the way she said “bonded” and “going.”
“Her British accent is nearly gone,” one user observed. “I know she’s been in America for a while now but oh my gosh, it used to be so strong!”
