Miley Cyrus Discusses Complicated Relationship with Father Billy Ray Cyrus on Latest Episode of David Letterman’s Netflix Show
In a recent episode of David Letterman’s Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Miley Cyrus discussed her relationship with her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. She refuted rumors of being estranged from her father.
Miley also spoke about how each of her parents contributed to her success in different ways. She emphasized that without her dad’s influence, she wouldn’t be the person she is today.

Describing Billy Ray Cyrus, his daughter, The Climb singer, said, “He has a connection to reality and nature, even when he was extremely famous.”
She continued, “I’m grateful for being able to look up to him. He has provided me with guidance and shown me what to do and what not to do. He has been a role model for me.”
Contrary to rumors of estrangement, Miley Cyrus expressed her respect and gratitude towards her father. His hit song Achy Breaky Heart from 1992 made Billy Ray famous, and they both starred in Disney Channel’s popular show Hannah Montana from 2006 to 2011. She admires his humility and the guidance he provided in shaping her life.

The singer emphasized, “I owe who I am as a person to my dad’s creativity and artistic nature. He has made me feel secure in my own thoughts because we share similar ideas. His perspective on life has influenced mine more than how I was brought up, which was mainly by my mom.”
Miley addressed rumors of familial estrangement and highlighted, “Our parents have always supported and sacrificed for us.” She added, “They made all our dreams possible.”
These reflections come amidst rumors of discord in Miley’s family, particularly after Tish filed for divorce from Billy Ray in April 2022. Following the divorce, both Tish and Billy remarried, but Billy Ray recently filed for divorce from his new wife Firerose, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate behavior.
Speculations about family rifts grew when Miley omitted Billy Ray from her Grammy acceptance speech, thanking only Brandi and her mom. However, she dismissed these rumors and reflected on her parents’ evolving roles in her life, expressing love and empathy for both of them.
