Believe it or not, some of the biggest celebrities use a name that is different from their own. From Michael Keaton to Gigi Hadid, many artists choose stage names—and it’s not just for fun.
Take Michael Keaton, for example. His real name is Michael Douglas, but he changed it to comply with a rule from the Screen Actor’s Guild that no two members can have the same name. Since both the actor Michael Douglas and talk show host Mike Douglas already had that name taken, he decided to go by something different.
Interestingly, Emma Stone, who is actually named Emily Stone by her friends and family, went through a similar situation. However, both actors have recently decided to go back to using their real names after years of establishing themselves with their stage names. It may take some getting used to, but these talented actors are bringing a new level of authenticity to their work.
