Lawyer for Menendez Brothers Concedes that Ryan Murphy Show Influenced Murder Case
According to Geragos, there has been a “movement” due to the influence of the younger generation.
At a press conference, Geragos referenced videos from a televised trial where the DA’s office argued that men could not be raped. He expressed disbelief at the outdated views from back then.
Geragos emphasized the significant evolution in societal views since that time, describing it as “seismic.”
Despite not representing the brothers during their trial, both have consistently filed habeas corpus petitions over the years in an attempt to overturn their convictions, with the most recent one filed in 2023.
During the press conference, Geragos explained that if the habeas corpus petition is granted, a new trial could be possible, and the judge could have a wide range of sentencing options if they are resentenced under California law.
The petition argues that the shootings of the Menendez brothers’ parents were manslaughter due to an honest but unreasonable belief in self-defense after enduring years of abuse.
