In Ketamine Death Case, Doctor Mark Chavez, Attending Physician of Matthew Perry, Enters Plea
A physician in California, Dr. Mark Chavez, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute ketamine to the late Friends actor Matthew Perry, who tragically passed away.
According to NBC News, Dr. Chavez entered the plea during a court appearance in Los Angeles on Oct. 2. Despite reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors, he still faces a potential 10-year prison sentence upon being sentenced on April 2, 2025.
While awaiting sentencing, the 54-year-old doctor, who has already surrendered his passport, is currently out on bond. Additionally, he has agreed to cease practicing medicine, as reported by NBC News.
Dr. Chavez is one of five individuals charged in Perry’s death, which was determined to have been caused by the acute effects of ketamine resulting in accidental drowning in his hot tub in October 2023, as revealed in a December 2023 autopsy report.
