Matthew Morrison Considered Leaving Glee Before Cory Monteith’s Death
Matthew’s struggles with work often conflicted with his personal life, not just once but multiple times. He felt constantly stressed by online criticism of his character.
He described how newsfeeds would bash his character and people would try to tear him down, which became interesting to him. Working on Glee brought both “high highs” and “really devastating lows,” and Matthew ended up breaking out with psoriasis due to the stress.
He explained, “I was just stressed, our bodies are not designed to go through that kind of pressure.”
Despite the challenges, Matthew is thankful for his time on the show and its ongoing relevance as a cultural touchstone.
He reflected, “The impact, that’s the thing that will stand the test of time. For me, that’s a beautiful thing.”
Matthew expressed his appreciation for being a part of a legacy of shows that have a cultural and societal impact on people.
