Chidambaram, director of Manjummel Boys, believes his film should not be remade in any other language: ‘I am unsure of its compatibility…’
Director Chidambaram of Manjummel Boys strongly opposes the idea of remaking the film in another language. In an interview with PTI, he expressed his belief that a movie like Manjummel Boys should never be adapted into a different language as it loses its cultural connection.
Chidambaram stated, “It’s a real story about a real cave and people. The cultural connection of the Kerala people, Tamil Nadu people. There are a lot of factors that helped the movie run successfully but if you’re going to remake it, I don’t know how much of it would be translated.”
He added, “I don’t think ‘Manjummel Boys’ is a movie that should be remade in any other language.”
Chidambaram described Manjummel Boys as a “pure humane story” with all the elements to become a great film, highlighting its uniqueness. He emphasized that people connected with the film because it tells a universal story.
Furthermore, Chidambaram shared details about his upcoming project, mentioning that it explores human emotions, drama, and an anatomy of violence.
Manjummel Boys is a survival thriller based on a real-life tragedy in the Guna caves. Released this year, it became one of the top-grossing Malayalam films. The story follows a group of friends on vacation in Kodaikanal, where one of them falls into an 800-foot-deep pit, leading to a gripping rescue mission.
The film, made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, earned over Rs 240 crore worldwide. The cast includes Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol, and others in key roles.
